No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Buccaneers. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Buccaneers spent pick No. 235 on Eric Gentry, a name the board had a full 62 spots lower.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Allen to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Matayo Uiagalelei
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value.
Pick55
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen in the 55th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick86
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Michael Taaffe for less than the market said. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jyaire Hill
Jyaire Hill at pick No. 122 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick161
Rnd5
Desmond Reid
Fair-plus on Desmond Reid, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick200
Rnd6
Riley Mahlman
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Riley Mahlman well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick235
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
They reached into another round for Eric Gentry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
