The Buccaneers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. The Patrick Payton pick is the one that will follow the Buccaneers into the fall. They took him 50 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
However the rest shakes out, Leavitt at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
In pick No. 25 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick26
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In No. 26 they get an island corner. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Sam Leavitt
Sam Leavitt is a better player than pick 54 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick95
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Keon Sabb slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick125
Rnd4
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in slot 125 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick143
Rnd5
Rasheem Biles
They liked Rasheem Biles enough to skip the value, taking him in the 143rd overall pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
