The Buccaneers let King fall into their laps, and walked away with a C+. Call it larceny. Kobe King sat on the board until Round 5, Pick 19, and the Buccaneers did not need to be asked twice. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In pick No. 26 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick84
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
Good price on Chris Paul Jr. in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick90
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
A tidy bit of business in slot 90, where Andrew Mukuba graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
A straight-up fair deal on Cobee Bryant at Round 4, Pick 19, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick157
Rnd5
Kobe King
Kobe King at No. 157 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick235
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III slipping to pick 235 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
