FutureB-
Daniels should have been long gone. The Buccaneers pounced, and earned a B+. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Buccaneers were there to profit. Jalon Daniels, the No. 164 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 200. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Spending an early pick on linebacker with offensive lineman, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
If Payton pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Avieon Terrell
In pick 32 they get a ballhawk on the outside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman at No. 54 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick64
Rnd2
Tim Keenan III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tim Keenan III. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
They liked Harold Perkins Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 22. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick122
Rnd4
Austin Romaine
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Austin Romaine adds a linebacker and leaves offensive lineman, tight end and other spots untouched.
Pick161
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
A reach for Patrick Payton in the 161st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels at pick No. 200 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235
Rnd7
London Humphreys
Nice patience on London Humphreys, who had no business lasting to the 235th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
