The Buccaneers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Nobody else had Michael Harris anywhere near the 235th overall pick. The Buccaneers did, by 106 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Tate falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 28th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick54
Rnd2
CJ Allen
CJ Allen at pick No. 54 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick85
Rnd3
Will Lee III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Will Lee III in the Round 3 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
By-the-book stuff, Tacario Davis at slot 124 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick163
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
They talked themselves into Oscar Delp at No. 163, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd6
James Smith
A big swing on James Smith at Round 6, Pick 22, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick235
Rnd7
Michael Harris
They left a pile of value on the table to take Michael Harris this early at the 235th pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
