The Buccaneers let Weeks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in pick No. 127 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Buccaneers sat still while Whit Weeks, the No. 97 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Spending an early pick on linebacker with interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. McNeil-Warren has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Denzel Boston
In pick 28 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value.
Pick59
Rnd2
Taurean York
Taurean York at Round 2, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick92
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Emmanuel McNeil-Warren. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick127
Rnd4
Whit Weeks
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Whit Weeks adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots untouched.
Pick168
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in No. 168 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243
Rnd7
Luke Altmyer
Luke Altmyer at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
