Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
C+
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesC-
FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Buccaneers get a C+. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jacob Rodriguez, 26 picks early at slot 72.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The Joly pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
If Cashius Howell and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Cashius Howell
In pick No. 15 they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick46
Rnd2
Akheem Mesidor
A premium they did not need to pay, Akheem Mesidor a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
A big swing on Jacob Rodriguez at pick 72, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick116
Rnd4
Justin Joly
Justin Joly at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick153
Rnd5
Nadame Tucker
Nadame Tucker at Round 5, Pick 15 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick193
Rnd6
Pat Coogan
Pat Coogan at slot 193 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick229
Rnd7
Robert Spears-Jennings
A reach on Robert Spears-Jennings in the 229th pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
