Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall C+
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureD+
The jury is out on the Buccaneers. For now, C+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Buccaneers spent Round 5, Pick 19 on Dont'e Thornton Jr., a name most had 28 spots down the list. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.

That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Hit on Mykel Williams and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
Grey Zabel at Round 2, Pick 21 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick102 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Fair-plus on Kevin Winston Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick121 Rnd4 Dorian Strong
A straight-up fair deal on Dorian Strong at No. 121, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick157 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 157 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick198 Rnd6 Karene Reid
A real head-scratcher, Karene Reid in the 198th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick228 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick235 Rnd7 Jabbar Muhammad
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jabbar Muhammad. A need, and now a little less of one.
