The Buccaneers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Buccaneers spent pick No. 242 on Troy Bowles, a name most had 55 spots down the list. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Quay Walker gives the group a proven body among the projects. Allen at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
LT Overton
In slot 13 they get a premier pass rusher. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
CJ Allen
Quietly one of the better values of the day, CJ Allen at Round 2, Pick 22. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick93
Rnd3
DeMonte Capehart
A big swing on DeMonte Capehart at the 93rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick200
Rnd6
Dante Dowdell
Dante Dowdell in pick 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick242
Rnd7
Troy Bowles
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Troy Bowles well ahead of where he belonged. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
