Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureB-
A franchise passer in Mestemaker headlines a B+ weekend for the Buccaneers.

With the present handled at quarterback, the Buccaneers looked to the future and took Drew Mestemaker anyway. You can quibble with the timing, not the position.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Washington. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. It is not that Mestemaker is a bad player; it is that the Buccaneers had louder needs to answer first.

Umanmielen has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Drew Mestemaker
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Drew Mestemaker adds a quarterback and leaves running back and wide receiver untouched.
Pick18 Rnd1 Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby in the 18th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
Trey'Dez Green in Round 2, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick49 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Will Echoles in pick 49 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in pick No. 69 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick71 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
Steal is underselling it; A'Mauri Washington at No. 71 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74 Rnd3 Princewill Umanmielen
They talked themselves into Princewill Umanmielen at slot 74, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106 Rnd4 Raylen Wilson
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Raylen Wilson while clear needs at running back and wide receiver sat open.
Pick194 Rnd6 Kayin Lee
Kayin Lee at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick220 Rnd7 Edrees Farooq
They let Edrees Farooq come to them and pounced at pick 220. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
