Draft Grade — Buccaneers

FutureA
The Buccaneers robbed the room for Echoles. Final grade: A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Buccaneers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
It is not that Cole is a bad player; it is that the Buccaneers had louder needs to answer first. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Echoles.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They will need Hampton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Chris Cole
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 32nd overall pick on Chris Cole with edge rusher and running back unsolved.
Pick35
Rnd2
Will Echoles
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Will Echoles in the 35th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick44
Rnd2
Ashton Hampton
A conviction pick on Ashton Hampton at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick46
Rnd2
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in pick 46 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Greg Johnson
Greg Johnson at Round 3, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick96
Rnd3
Reed Harris
A curious use of slot 96. Edge rusher and running back needed the pick; a wide receiver in Reed Harris did not.
Pick105
Rnd4
Peter Clarke
The board had cheaper options than Peter Clarke at Round 4, Pick 3, and it noticed. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick112
Rnd4
Kingston Lopa
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Kingston Lopa in No. 112 leaves edge rusher and running back for later.
Pick141
Rnd5
Drake Lindsey
They jumped the gun on Drake Lindsey, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick156
Rnd5
Jayden Jackson
They let Jayden Jackson come to them and pounced at pick 156. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
