A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Buccaneers get a C+. Nobody had Shaun Dolac this high, and it is not close. The Buccaneers reached 56 spots to get him at slot 253.
The Skattebo steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Mike Green
By-the-book stuff, Mike Green at the 28th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick55
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at No. 55 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick86
Rnd3
Shemar Turner
Shemar Turner at the 86th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick101
Rnd3
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in Round 3, Pick 37 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick120
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
They took Jacob Parrish at par in pick No. 120, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cam Skattebo
A running back of that caliber at pick 124 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick158
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
They robbed the room for Pat Bryant here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jay Higgins. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick220
Rnd7
Clay Webb
A big swing on Clay Webb at No. 220, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick237
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes in slot 237 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick253
Rnd7
Shaun Dolac
Value said wait; Shaun Dolac in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
