A respectable, level-headed haul for the Buccaneers: B-. The Eric Gentry selection is the head-turner. The Buccaneers reached 122 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Taaffe at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The veteran additions, Kamari Lassiter chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
They liked Quincy Rhodes Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 37. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick46
Rnd2
Nyck Harbor
A clean, defensible pick in the 46th pick with a little surplus value in Nyck Harbor. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick56
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
They reached into another round for Caleb Tiernan, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Joe Royer
This one needs a full-page explanation: Joe Royer in pick 87, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick90
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
A safety of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick100
Rnd3
Sammy Omosigho
They talked themselves into Sammy Omosigho at Round 3, Pick 36, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zane Durant
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Zane Durant well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116
Rnd4
Davison Igbinosun
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in Round 4, Pick 16 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick124
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis slipping to the 124th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick125
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in slot 125 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128
Rnd4
Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves in the 128th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick145
Rnd5
Barion Brown
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barion Brown this early at the Round 5 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160
Rnd5
Kage Casey
The board had Kage Casey higher than pick No. 160, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at No. 174 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick189
Rnd6
Dane Key
Dane Key at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick191
Rnd6
Daevin Hobbs
A big swing on Daevin Hobbs at No. 191, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick207
Rnd6
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at the 207th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick211
Rnd6
Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at the 211th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick242
Rnd7
Fernando Carmona
The board had cheaper options than Fernando Carmona at slot 242, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick245
Rnd7
Solomon Tuliaupupu
Solomon Tuliaupupu in Round 7, Pick 27 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
