Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
D-
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
The Buccaneers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Buccaneers did exactly that with Richard Jibunor in slot 220. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Bo Nix is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Schrader steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In pick 20 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In No. 28 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Pick73
Rnd3
Trey Benson
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in slot 73; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A real head-scratcher, Cooper Beebe in pick No. 90 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in the 94th pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick120
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick130
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster in No. 130 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
A conviction pick on Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 132 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick134
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in pick 134 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jonah Monheim in the Round 5 slot, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
A premium they did not need to pay, Justin Eboigbe a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at the 174th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick198
Rnd6
Bryson Nesbit
No drama and no debate, Bryson Nesbit went about where he belonged in the 198th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick199
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 24 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick202
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson in pick 202 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jason Henderson
They paid a round early for Jason Henderson in pick No. 215, more than the board wanted. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220
Rnd6
Richard Jibunor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Richard Jibunor this early at No. 220. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick224
Rnd7
Edefuan Ulofoshio
They reached into another round for Edefuan Ulofoshio, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick241
Rnd7
Demani Richardson
A straight-up fair deal on Demani Richardson at slot 241, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick245
Rnd7
Brian Ugwu
A big swing on Brian Ugwu at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick251
Rnd7
Cody Schrader
A quiet steal in the 251st pick: Cody Schrader for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
