Papagaff DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Larceny in the Round 3 slot lands the Bengals a B, Watts and all. The board owed the Bengals one, and it paid up: Xavier Watts, the No. 48 name on the board, sitting there at slot 81 like a gift left on the doorstep. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A tidy bit of business in slot 49, where Jihaad Campbell graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick81
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
A safety of that caliber at pick 81 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at the 117th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
