Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs did not so much draft Theo Johnson as overpay for him, 32 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Landing Hopper that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at Round 1, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63 Rnd2 Trey Benson
Good price on Trey Benson in the 63rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick94 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at pick 94 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in pick No. 131 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick163 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in No. 163 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 171, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick176 Rnd6 Devin Neal
Devin Neal at pick 176 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209 Rnd6 Theo Johnson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Theo Johnson this early at the 209th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick252 Rnd7 Rylie Mills
By-the-book stuff, Rylie Mills at Round 7, Pick 32 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
