FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Bengals. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bengals would have aced it. Cooper Beebe at Round 2, Pick 17 is 29 spots clear of where he belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Simpson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the 18th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at Round 2, Pick 17 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick81
Rnd3
Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in pick No. 81 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick115
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
This one needs a full-page explanation: Ben Sinnott in the 115th pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick151
Rnd5
Cam Hart
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Cam Hart for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They went early on Zion Tupuola-Fetui in No. 154, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
A cornerback of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick196
Rnd6
Michael Wiley
Michael Wiley in pick 196 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
Value with a capital V on Daequan Hardy in No. 238, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254
Rnd7
Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson at the 254th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
