Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs did not so much draft Billy Bowman Jr. as overpay for him, 96 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson. The Jackson pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and linebacker still on the board. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Troy Franklin
In pick No. 31 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at pick 63 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Pick94 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
A conviction pick on Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 31 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Khyree Jackson at defensive back with interior defensive lineman and linebacker open.
Pick163 Rnd5 Roman Wilson
They will replay Roman Wilson at the 163rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jalon Daniels
A wild overpay on Jalon Daniels in the 171st overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick175 Rnd5 Devin Neal
Devin Neal in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick209 Rnd6 Theo Johnson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Johnson in the 209th pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick252 Rnd7 Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. at Round 7, Pick 32 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
