BSchiav DRAFTING FOR THEBills

Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bills. The Bills clearly saw something nobody else did in Joe Milton III, taking him 40 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
However the rest shakes out, Torrence at that price is a win they earned. That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Nice patience on Chris Braswell, who had no business lasting to slot 60. The roster fit checks out.
Pick128
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster is a better player than the 128th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick134
Rnd4
Chau Smith-Wade
A clean, defensible pick in the 134th pick with a little surplus value in Chau Smith-Wade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick144
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
By-the-book stuff, Mason McCormick at No. 144 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick160
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick 160 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick189
Rnd6
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at the 189th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick200
Rnd6
Ro Torrence
Ro Torrence in slot 200 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick204
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A wild overpay on Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick209
Rnd6
Myles Cole
Myles Cole at pick 209 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Bub Means
A tidy little value on Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 28, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
