Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall

FutureB-
The Jaguars fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. The Jaguars treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Sawyer Robertson a full 152 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Coogan steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Jaguars paired the rookies with proven help, Dawson Knox leading the way.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick61
Rnd2
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the 61st pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick74
Rnd3
Taurean York
Taurean York in the 74th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick90
Rnd3
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at pick No. 90 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick91
Rnd3
Carson Beck
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Carson Beck in pick 91. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick100
Rnd3
Kaytron Allen
Kaytron Allen in slot 100 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110
Rnd4
Evan Stewart
They paid up for Evan Stewart at No. 110 when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116
Rnd4
Chase Roberts
A reach for Chase Roberts in slot 116; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142
Rnd5
Luke Hasz
No drama and no debate, Luke Hasz went about where he belonged in the 142nd overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick191
Rnd6
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in the 191st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick198
Rnd6
Alex Birchmeier
Value said wait; Alex Birchmeier in pick 198 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jason Henderson
Jason Henderson at Round 7, Pick 1 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick222
Rnd7
Pat Coogan
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 222 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Riley Mahlman
No edge and no loss on Riley Mahlman in pick No. 223; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick230
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at pick 230 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239
Rnd7
Reid Carrico
Reid Carrico at Round 7, Pick 23 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick242
Rnd7
Stephen Dix Jr.
A wild overpay on Stephen Dix Jr. in slot 242, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick243
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf is a better player than the Round 7 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245
Rnd7
Sawyer Robertson
They talked themselves into Sawyer Robertson at No. 245, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
