Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Jaguars won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Stephen Dix Jr.; the Jaguars did not wait, grabbing him 150 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 7. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

Getting Thieneman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick58 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
Dillon Thieneman in No. 58 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74 Rnd3 Whit Weeks
Fair-plus on Whit Weeks, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90 Rnd3 Carson Beck
They robbed the room for Carson Beck here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Mansoor Delane
They will replay Mansoor Delane at the 91st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jalon Kilgore
Taking Jalon Kilgore in slot 100 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Aaron Anderson
Nothing to complain about; Aaron Anderson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142 Rnd5 Dane Key
The board had cheaper options than Dane Key at slot 142, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144 Rnd5 Justice Haynes
A running back of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick149 Rnd5 Connor Tollison
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Tollison. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick198 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
They jumped the gun on Fernando Carmona, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jason Henderson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jason Henderson well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222 Rnd7 Reid Carrico
A wild overpay on Reid Carrico in No. 222, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick223 Rnd7 Stephen Dix Jr.
They talked themselves into Stephen Dix Jr. at pick No. 223, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick230 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf at pick 230 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick239 Rnd7 Marquis Johnson
Marquis Johnson at pick 239 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick245 Rnd7 London Humphreys
London Humphreys is a better player than No. 245 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
