Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B

FutureD+
The Chiefs won the night they stopped Smith-Wade from sliding. Grade: B. Whoever sat across the table from the Chiefs should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Smith-Wade falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Reaching for Cox left real value on the table behind him. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Malik Nabers
In the 3rd pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the 57th overall pick with a little surplus value in Brian Thomas Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick167
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick172
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
They let Ainias Smith come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick175
Rnd5
Tre Harris
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tre Harris at pick 175. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick210
Rnd6
Marques Cox
They went early on Marques Cox in No. 210, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick237
Rnd7
Reuben Fatheree II
Fair-plus on Reuben Fatheree II, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade in No. 246 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
