Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesC FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Sanders in the fold, and a B- for the Browns.

The Browns spent the pick that matters most on Shedeur Sanders, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher and tight end went begging. If Smith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Shedeur Sanders
In pick No. 6 they get a passer to set the clock by. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37 Rnd2 Matthew Golden
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick53 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at Round 2, Pick 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at No. 67 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick73 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Isaiah Bond. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
A want over a need in the 82nd overall pick: Barrett Carter adds a linebacker while edge rusher and tight end keeps waiting.
Pick94 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Nothing to complain about; Charles Grant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick104 Rnd4 Zy Alexander
Good price on Zy Alexander in pick 104, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick121 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
No drama and no debate, Emery Jones Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick162 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
A straight-up fair deal on Seth McLaughlin at No. 162, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick179 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 179th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick192 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West at Round 6, Pick 16 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200 Rnd6 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton is a better player than pick 200 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Circle this one: Jaylen Reed at pick No. 216 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick255 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
A reach on Donovan Smith in the 255th pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
