The phones were a trap the Browns kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.

The Hartman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Smith-Wade value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The Browns paired the rookies with proven help, Jacoby Brissett leading the way. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
