Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesD FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B.

Nobody else had Cal Haladay anywhere near slot 257. The Browns did, by 168 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The Nelson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In pick 3 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick67 Rnd3 Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at the 67th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
No edge and no loss on Jordan Burch in slot 94; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Skattebo at Round 4, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jack Kiser this early at No. 165. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jack Nelson
Somehow Jack Nelson was still sitting there in pick 181, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick194 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
No drama and no debate, Luke Lachey went about where he belonged in the 194th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick202 Rnd6 CJ West
A reach for CJ West in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick216 Rnd6 Hunter Wohler
They reached a country mile for Hunter Wohler at slot 216, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd6 Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai slipping to No. 217 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick257 Rnd7 Cal Haladay
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cal Haladay. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
