FutureB-
The Browns lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Browns took Jalon Kilgore a full 78 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The Mendoza steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In slot 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick12
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick21
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 21st pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick29
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the 29th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, though the board says they badly overpaid. More want than need.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Kilgore
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalon Kilgore in pick 38, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick69
Rnd3
Fernando Mendoza
Circle this one: Fernando Mendoza at Round 3, Pick 5 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Klare
Max Klare slid further than he should have, and the 84th pick is lovely value for the tight end. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nicholas Singleton in the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick126
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at slot 126 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick144
Rnd5
Logan Jones
They did well to land Logan Jones in pick 144, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick148
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
They paid sticker price for Iapani Laloulu in No. 148, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
Zane Durant
Zane Durant at the 149th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick241
Rnd7
Da'Shawn Womack
They reached a country mile for Da'Shawn Womack at Round 7, Pick 24, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244
Rnd7
Smith Snowden
They took Smith Snowden at par in pick No. 244, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
