Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Browns turned the phones into found money: A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Browns fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Neal that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Delp pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In pick 24 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick31
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In slot 31 they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
By-the-book stuff, Olaivavega Ioane at No. 39 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jadarian Price
A tidy little value on Jadarian Price in the 63rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Fair-plus on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95
Rnd3
Julian Neal
Julian Neal at the 95th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick107
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
They took Zachariah Branch at par in Round 4, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139
Rnd5
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144
Rnd5
Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst in No. 144 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp in slot 147 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nolan Rucci
They paid sticker price for Nolan Rucci in pick No. 204, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick248
Rnd7
Haynes King
Value with a capital V on Haynes King in the Round 7 slot, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
