FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Jaguars. The Jaguars torched the value chart for Gerry Bohanon, taking him 315 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
They will answer for taking edge rusher early while wide receiver and linebacker went begging.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 5th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. Need was not the driver here.
Pick36
Rnd2
Kaleb Johnson
They paid a round early for Kaleb Johnson in slot 36, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A tidy little value on Maxwell Hairston in No. 70, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
A want over a need in the 88th pick: Kyle Kennard adds an edge rusher while wide receiver and linebacker keeps waiting.
Pick107
Rnd4
Gunnar Helm
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Gunnar Helm at pick 107. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Gerry Bohanon
Gerry Bohanon at pick No. 126 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick142
Rnd5
Akili Arnold
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Akili Arnold well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182
Rnd6
Joshua Simon
They reached into another round for Joshua Simon, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in Round 6, Pick 18 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Chase Lundt
They will replay Chase Lundt at pick 221 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
