Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 255th pick on Phillip Webb a full 91 spots early. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Whatever Cam Ward becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In the 2nd pick they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick33 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at No. 33 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick67 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at pick No. 67 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick94 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
You do not let an offensive lineman like Cameron Williams reach pick 94 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick104 Rnd4 David Walker
They paid sticker price for David Walker in slot 104, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick179 Rnd6 Vernon Broughton
A straight-up fair deal on Vernon Broughton at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick192 Rnd6 Marcus Yarns
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Marcus Yarns well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick200 Rnd6 LaJohntay Wester
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for LaJohntay Wester. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick216 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
They went early on Carson Vinson in Round 6, Pick 40, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
They left a pile of value on the table to take Phillip Webb this early at pick 255. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
