Draft Grade — Eagles

ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Eagles checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Ruben Hyppolite II in the 161st overall pick. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

The Watts value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick 32 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick64 Rnd2 Andrew Mukuba
A reach for Andrew Mukuba in Round 2, Pick 32; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick96 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
They barely believed it either: Xavier Watts still on the board at pick No. 96. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd4 Que Robinson
They reached into another round for Que Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161 Rnd5 Ruben Hyppolite II
Ruben Hyppolite II at No. 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick164 Rnd5 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. at the 164th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Oronde Gadsden II
They talked themselves into Oronde Gadsden II at the 165th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168 Rnd5 Drew Kendall
A wild overpay on Drew Kendall in No. 168, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
