Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueC-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Dolphins won the night they stopped Ewers from sliding. Grade: B-. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Quinn Ewers got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at Round 7, Pick 15. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Every board in the league had Davis lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
The board had cheaper options than Kenneth Grant at pick No. 13, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick48
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
A tidy little value on Aireontae Ersery in the 48th pick, a step better than break-even. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caleb Rogers
They reached a country mile for Caleb Rogers at the 98th overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick116
Rnd4
Woody Marks
They talked themselves into Woody Marks at pick 116, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
Pick135
Rnd4
Elic Ayomanor
Somehow Elic Ayomanor was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jason Marshall Jr.
A wild overpay on Jason Marshall Jr. in slot 150, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick155
Rnd5
Dante Trader Jr.
A big swing on Dante Trader Jr. at No. 155, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jasheen Davis
Jasheen Davis at Round 7, Pick 8 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick231
Rnd7
Quinn Ewers
They robbed the room for Quinn Ewers here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick253
Rnd7
Fadil Diggs
A slide stopped in No. 253, with Fadil Diggs worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
