Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Browns: B-.

There is reaching, and then there is Monroe Freeling at the 70th overall pick. The Browns jumped the board by 40 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Styles pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value.
Pick24 Rnd1 KC Concepcion
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a difference-maker at receiver, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A curious use of pick 39. Edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Sonny Styles did not.
Pick70 Rnd3 Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at pick No. 70 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick107 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 107 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Nothing to complain about; Drew Allar went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick144 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ted Hurst. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
They paid up for Aamil Wagner at the 147th pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
