FutureB-
The Browns bet the future on Mendoza. The board says D-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Boubacar Traore in the Round 4 slot, a good 36 spots before the room expected him. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Fernando Mendoza is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Moore Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
Pick20
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 20th overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Chris Brazzell II
Chris Brazzell II in slot 38 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby in the 57th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick67
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew in Round 3, Pick 3 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
Value with a capital V on Daylen Everette in No. 69, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110
Rnd4
Justice Haynes
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Justice Haynes in the Round 4 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick117
Rnd4
Boubacar Traore
Boubacar Traore at the 117th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick146
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A conviction pick on DeMonte Capehart at Round 5, Pick 6 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick191
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
They paid a round early for Raylen Wilson in the 191st pick, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick241
Rnd7
DeAndre Moore Jr.
DeAndre Moore Jr. at slot 241 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick245
Rnd7
Dominic Zvada
A wild overpay on Dominic Zvada in No. 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
