FutureB-
The Browns kept it disciplined and banked a B-. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Browns would have aced it. Tyler Batty at the 200th pick is 39 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Membou value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at pick 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick33
Rnd2
Armand Membou
They will replay Armand Membou at pick No. 33 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick40
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at No. 40 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks in the 45th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick67
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in Round 3, Pick 3 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick71
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick93
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen Milroe. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
A tidy little value on Tez Johnson in slot 104, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick117
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
They reached a country mile for Tyler Shough at the 117th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick192
Rnd6
Upton Stout
Upton Stout at pick 192 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick200
Rnd6
Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty in pick No. 200 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216
Rnd6
Luke Lachey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke Lachey in Round 6, Pick 40. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick232
Rnd7
Carson Vinson
They did well to land Carson Vinson in the 232nd pick, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick255
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in Round 7, Pick 39 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
