Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Browns did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Browns reached some 39 spots for Lander Barton, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Davis pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Francis Mauigoa
In slot 6 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick24 Rnd1 KC Concepcion
No drama and no debate, KC Concepcion went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 24. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in pick No. 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick70 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Kobi Lane at No. 70 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick107 Rnd4 Genesis Smith
Nice patience on Genesis Smith, who had no business lasting to the 107th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd5 J.C. Davis
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with J.C. Davis worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick144 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun in Round 5, Pick 6 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147 Rnd5 Lander Barton
They reached into another round for Lander Barton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick178 Rnd5 Sam Roush
They read the board right and Sam Roush was the payoff at No. 178. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
