Captain America DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B-. The Browns looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Vincent Anthony Jr. at the 141st overall pick regardless, 53 picks early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Hubbard. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
In No. 3 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 27 they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
By-the-book stuff, Sonny Styles at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ian Strong
A straight-up fair deal on Ian Strong at slot 69, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
Tim Keenan III in Round 4, Pick 4 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141
Rnd5
Vincent Anthony Jr.
They reached a country mile for Vincent Anthony Jr. at pick No. 141, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick142
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
They went early on Iapani Laloulu in pick 142, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
The board had Bray Hubbard higher than the 148th pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes in Round 6, Pick 29 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick248
Rnd7
Kayin Lee
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kayin Lee well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
