smbaker2009 DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns let York fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. The Browns did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Taurean York fell into the 244th overall pick. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
Spencer Fano at Round 1, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick27
Rnd1
Makai Lemon
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Caleb Lomu
Caleb Lomu at No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson in pick No. 71 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Olaivavega Ioane
Circle this one: Olaivavega Ioane at pick 106 is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jake Slaughter
The board fumbled Jake Slaughter all the way to the 141st overall pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick145
Rnd5
Carnell Tate
Taking Carnell Tate in slot 145 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
They will replay Jaeden Roberts at the 150th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby in pick 204 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick244
Rnd7
Taurean York
They robbed the room for Taurean York here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
