Draft Grade — Browns

FutureF
Nobody dealt better than the Browns this weekend: C+. When a board-topper like Adon Shuler slides to Round 5, Pick 21, you do not overthink it, and the Browns did not. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
The Franklin pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not. On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
So much rides on Will Echoles that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
Will Echoles
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
Trey'Dez Green
In pick 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value.
Pick26
Rnd1
Clev Lubin
In slot 26 they get a premier pass rusher, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Vicari Swain
Vicari Swain in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58
Rnd2
Jayden Maiava
They reached into another round for Jayden Maiava, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Terry Moore
Good price on Terry Moore in Round 3, Pick 23, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick124
Rnd4
Devin McCuin
A conviction pick on Devin McCuin at the 124th overall pick that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jayden Jackson
They liked Jayden Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 126. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick130
Rnd4
Evan Tengesdahl
They robbed the room for Evan Tengesdahl here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba in the 139th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick158
Rnd5
Adon Shuler
Adon Shuler at the 158th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jacob Ponton
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jacob Ponton. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick163
Rnd5
Kam Franklin
Kam Franklin at No. 163 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick164
Rnd5
Ezra Christensen
Ezra Christensen in slot 164 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick167
Rnd5
Justice Haynes
They left a pile of value on the table to take Justice Haynes this early at pick No. 167. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick174
Rnd5
Cayden Lee
They took Cayden Lee at par in the 174th pick, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick181
Rnd5
Jayden Virgin-Morgan
A slide stopped in pick 181, with Jayden Virgin-Morgan worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick215
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton in Round 6, Pick 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick224
Rnd7
Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick241
Rnd7
Addison Nichols
They paid a round early for Addison Nichols in slot 241, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick246
Rnd7
Jordan Castell
Jordan Castell at Round 7, Pick 27 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
