FutureA
Nobody dealt better than the Browns this weekend: B+. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Patrick Payton, 66 picks early at pick No. 185.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The Hill Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Browns clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In pick No. 24 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25
Rnd1
KC Concepcion
In the 25th pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Max Iheanachor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Max Iheanachor this early at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick55
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They let Anthony Hill Jr. come to them and pounced at No. 55. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick70
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in the 70th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ja'Kobi Lane
A straight-up fair deal on Ja'Kobi Lane at slot 89, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Genesis Smith
A tidy bit of business in slot 107, where Genesis Smith graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick129
Rnd4
Eli Raridon
Eli Raridon in pick 129 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kyle Louis
They jumped the gun on Kyle Louis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jalen Farmer
A conviction pick on Jalen Farmer at the Round 5 slot that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jude Bowry
They took Jude Bowry at par in the 147th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
A real head-scratcher, Patrick Payton in pick No. 185 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248
Rnd7
Nick Barrett
The board had cheaper options than Nick Barrett at Round 7, Pick 32, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
