Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA-
The Browns finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

The phones were a trap the Browns kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They will answer for taking DT-EDGE early while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Jones reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
Jayden Daniels in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick43 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 43rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick55 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton in pick No. 55 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick74 Rnd3 Jonathon Brooks
No edge and no loss on Jonathon Brooks in slot 74; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick109 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick118 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 118th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick145 Rnd5 Junior Colson
They barely believed it either: Junior Colson still on the board at Round 5, Pick 9. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis in pick 148 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade at slot 164 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick181 Rnd6 Christian Jones
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in pick No. 181, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick194 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
Fair-plus on Austin Stogner, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
The board had Michael Barrett higher than Round 6, Pick 29, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick210 Rnd6 Sheridan Jones
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sheridan Jones. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick223 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
They paid up for Matthew Jones at the 223rd overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
Circle this one: Miyan Williams at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
