Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA-
The Cardinals robbed the room for Beebe. Final grade: A-. Whoever sat across the table from the Cardinals should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They banked enough surplus on Beebe to cover a lot of smaller sins. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. If Thrash pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Rome Odunze and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 11th pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In pick No. 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins at slot 57 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at pick 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90
Rnd3
Renardo Green
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Renardo Green graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick92
Rnd3
Braelon Allen
They liked Braelon Allen enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 92. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
Value said wait; Jamari Thrash in slot 104 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick125
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They reached into another round for Justin Eboigbe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
Dallin Holker at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Pick147
Rnd5
Sataoa Laumea
They let Sataoa Laumea come to them and pounced at pick No. 147. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick157
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at Round 5, Pick 21 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick162
Rnd5
Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at No. 162 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick186
Rnd6
Erick All
A reach on Erick All in the 186th pick; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick187
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in pick 187 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Taking Steele Chambers in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick230
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means in Round 7, Pick 10 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
