FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Broncos and Bailey: A. You could see the war room lean forward. Emani Bailey at No. 230 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman and edge rusher still on the board. The Broncos clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Troy Fautanu and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Somehow Troy Fautanu was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick58
Rnd2
Kalen King
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kalen King at slot 58 is the proof. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76
Rnd3
J.J. McCarthy
They will replay J.J. McCarthy at pick 76 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick89
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 26 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick114
Rnd4
Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at interior defensive lineman and edge rusher sat open.
Pick122
Rnd4
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 122nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ben Sinnott in pick No. 146. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in No. 155 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick177
Rnd6
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in Round 6, Pick 2 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
Circle this one: JD Bertrand at pick No. 218 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick230
Rnd7
Emani Bailey
You do not let a running back like Emani Bailey reach No. 230 and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick237
Rnd7
Steele Chambers
Good price on Steele Chambers in the 237th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
