FutureA
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Broncos to a D. The war room fell hard for Frank Gore Jr., and it showed at the 220th pick: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The veteran additions, D.J. Humphries chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
However the rest shakes out, Grable at that price is a win they earned. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the 35th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick57
Rnd2
Adisa Isaac
No drama and no debate, Adisa Isaac went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66
Rnd3
Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter in No. 66 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick87
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Cade Stover at Round 3, Pick 24 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121
Rnd4
Cam Hart
A clean, defensible pick in the 121st overall pick with a little surplus value in Cam Hart. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
No edge and no loss on Jarrian Jones in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick136
Rnd4
Michael Pratt
A conviction pick on Michael Pratt at pick 136 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
They took Luke McCaffrey at par in pick No. 145, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick157
Rnd5
Cornelius Johnson
By-the-book stuff, Cornelius Johnson at the 157th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
They paid sticker price for Jaden Crumedy in No. 203, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick207
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They jumped the gun on Jaylan Ford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Gore Jr. in slot 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick230
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
Good price on JD Bertrand in the 230th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick232
Rnd7
Tylan Grable
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tylan Grable at the 232nd overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
