FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B. You can hear the double-takes from here. The 49ers took Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 193, roughly 83 spots before his name belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 4, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick63
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
No drama and no debate, Bralen Trice went about where he belonged in pick 63. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick94
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
They robbed the room for Xavier Legette here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick98
Rnd3
DJ James
DJ James slid further than he should have, and the 98th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in pick No. 106 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick125
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
Good price on Beaux Limmer in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick132
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in Round 4, Pick 32 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd5
McKinnley Jackson
A slide stopped in No. 138, with McKinnley Jackson worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick176
Rnd6
Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 176 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick183
Rnd6
Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick193
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taulia Tagovailoa in slot 193, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
A linebacker of that caliber at the 214th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick256
Rnd7
Trey Knox
The board fumbled Trey Knox all the way to the 256th pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
