The Bears went off-script early, and it cost them a F.

The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Devin Neal at No. 223 regardless, 48 picks early. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. With linebacker and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

However the rest shakes out, Moore at that price is a win they earned. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

The verdict is harsh because the weekend was, and there is little to argue.
