Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC
The Commanders found their guy under center in Williams: D-.

The phones were a trap the Commanders kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

The Owens steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
Caleb Williams in slot 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick29 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In pick No. 29 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Terrion Arnold
A slide stopped in pick 36, with Terrion Arnold worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at No. 40 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick67 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 67th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick92 Rnd3 Cade Stover
Cade Stover at the 92nd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick166 Rnd5 Trevor Keegan
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 30 with a little surplus value in Trevor Keegan. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178 Rnd6 Luke McCaffrey
A tidy bit of business in the 178th pick, where Luke McCaffrey graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187 Rnd6 Dwight McGlothern
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at the 187th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tyrice Knight
Tyrice Knight in slot 222 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick232 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett slipping to pick 232 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick251 Rnd7 Tyler Owens
Tyler Owens at No. 251 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
