Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesC FutureA
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Rourke: B+.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kurtis Rourke fell into pick 204. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
They read the board right and Kaleb Johnson was the payoff at the 58th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76 Rnd3 Darien Porter
They paid sticker price for Darien Porter in Round 3, Pick 12, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick89 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
They jumped the gun on Cam Skattebo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd4 Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips at pick 134 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jeffrey Bassa
They will replay Jeffrey Bassa at the 149th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at pick No. 174 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204 Rnd6 Kurtis Rourke
Somehow Kurtis Rourke was still sitting there in slot 204, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick211 Rnd6 Connor Colby
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 211 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick239 Rnd7 Jaylen Reed
Circle this one: Jaylen Reed at No. 239 is a fall that decides a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jaylin Smith
A reach on Jaylin Smith in Round 7, Pick 31; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
