FutureC+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Cowboys: B. Nobody had Hunter Wohler this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 26 spots to get him at the 239th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Schwesinger value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
A tidy bit of business in pick 59, where Jonah Savaiinaea graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87
Rnd3
Darien Porter
They read the board right and Darien Porter was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 23. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Carson Schwesinger in No. 88. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at pick No. 149 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick174
Rnd5
CJ West
They went early on CJ West in pick 174, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
A quiet steal in the 204th pick: Jaylen Reed for less than the market said. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick211
Rnd6
Kyle Monangai
Kyle Monangai in slot 211 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick217
Rnd7
Luke Lachey
They did well to land Luke Lachey in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239
Rnd7
Hunter Wohler
Hunter Wohler at pick No. 239 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick247
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
