Draft Grade — Jets
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB+
Washington should have been long gone. The Jets pounced, and earned a D+.

The Jets lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Washington. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In No. 11 they get a seam-stretching tight end. Need was not the driver here.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A tidy bit of business in Round 3, Pick 5, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick72 Rnd3 Xavier Worthy
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick79 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the 79th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick109 Rnd4 Cam Hart
Cam Hart slipping to the 109th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 110, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
Sataoa Laumea in slot 111 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Johnny Wilson at the 135th pick is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick139 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chau Smith-Wade at No. 139. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick140 Rnd5 Isaiah Adams
They took Isaiah Adams at par in the 140th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick142 Rnd5 Trevor Keegan
No drama and no debate, Trevor Keegan went about where he belonged in pick No. 142. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
By-the-book stuff, Kitan Oladapo at pick 152 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick181 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joe Milton III this early at the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Khristian Boyd
Khristian Boyd at Round 6, Pick 10 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tahj Washington
Tahj Washington in pick No. 222 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick225 Rnd7 Nathaniel Watson
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 5, with Nathaniel Watson worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick240 Rnd7 Trevin Wallace
Fair-plus on Trevin Wallace, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick253 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
You do not let a linebacker like Michael Barrett reach No. 253 and blink. They did not. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick257 Rnd7 Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor slid further than he should have, and slot 257 is lovely value for the safety. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
