FutureA
The Browns lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Browns reached some 106 spots for Jimmy Horn Jr., and value like that does not grow back. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Hit on Derrick Harmon and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Derrick Harmon
A premium they did not need to pay, Derrick Harmon a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick33
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau in pick 33 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tre Harris
No drama and no debate, Tre Harris went about where he belonged in No. 49. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Taking Kaleb Johnson in the 67th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick94
Rnd3
Savion Williams
Savion Williams in the 94th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
Steal is underselling it; Barrett Carter at Round 4, Pick 2 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick165
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
They reached a country mile for Cobee Bryant at Round 5, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181
Rnd6
RJ Harvey
A quiet steal in pick 181: RJ Harvey for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
They jumped the gun on Jordan Hancock, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It fills a real need, too.
Pick202
Rnd6
Jimmy Horn Jr.
Value said wait; Jimmy Horn Jr. in the 202nd pick says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick216
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at the 216th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217
Rnd6
Bryson Nesbit
A big swing on Bryson Nesbit at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick257
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.J. Weaver this early at No. 257. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
